If you are reading this comparison review of the Germ Guardian AC4825 and AC5000 air purifiers, you have probably already done some research and simply want to learn a little more about the main similarities and differences between these machines.
They are 2 of the most popular cheap air purifiers on the market today and in this review I will explain everything that you need to know in order to make an informed decision about which of these air purifiers is most suitable for your circumstances.
So, what are the similarities and differences between the Germ Guardian AC4825 and AC5000 air purifiers?
Germ Guardian AC4825 vs AC5000 – Shared Features
The Germ Guardian AC4825 and AC5000 air purifiers are identical in most respects. They both have 3 different speed settings and here is an explanation of their most important shared features.
1. True-HEPA Filter
Both of these air purifiers come fitted with True-HEPA filters and official CADR ratings (see below).
If you are not yet an expert in air purifier technology, in order for a filter to be legitimately categorised as a “True-HEPA” filter it must be capable of removing at least 99.97% of airborne particles that are as small as 0.3 microns.
I would always look for an air purifier with a True-HEPA filter (or Hyper-HEPA filter) because they are able to remove most of the general dust, pet dander, pollen, and mold spore particles that are commonly found in the home.
Not all air purifiers come with a True-HEPA filter (especially at the cheaper end of the market) and so the Germ Guardian AC4825 and AC5000 machines are at the top of their class when it comes to the main filtering process that they use.
Sadly, the HEPA filters won’t last forever, though, and you will need to replace the filter every 6-9 months or so. The replacement True-HEPA filters for the Germ Guardian AC4825 and AC5000 air purifiers are not as expensive as some of the other brands, and the great thing is that you only need to buy a single combined filter rather than lots of individual filters.
When replacing the filter, just make sure that you buy one of the genuine ones made by the Germ Guardian company rather than one made by an unauthorised 3rd party seller.
2. The 2 Other Air Filters
In addition to the True-HEPA filter, both of these air purifiers come with 2 other filters. These extra filters use very different scientific processes to remove other types of airborne particles from the home that HEPA filters are not designed to deal with.
Whilst the True-HEPA filters are able to remove many of the most common household allergens from the air in your home, you also get the benefit of activated carbon filters, which are designed to remove household gas and odors, including those caused by pets, cigarette smoking and cooking.
The AC4825 and AC5000 air purifiers also come with UV-C Light Filters. These work with Titanium Dioxide to kill airborne bacteria, viruses, germs and mold spores.
So, despite the fact that these Germ Guardian air purifiers are at the cheaper end of the market, you get 3 different types of filter to target a wide variety of unwanted airborne particles.
You also don’t worry about having to keep track of how long the filters have been in use for, or having to guess when they need to be replaced by constantly removing the filters and checking them.
Instead, the Germ Guardian AC 4825 and AC5000 both come with “filter replacement indicators”, which will tell you exactly when it is time to buy a replacement filter.
There is also an indicator to tell you when to replace the UV-C filter light bulbs too.
3. Ozone-Free!
Many people don’t realise that some air purifiers use particle-removal processes that cause significant amounts of potentially harmful ozone gas to be released into your home environment.
Despite what some of the manufacturers of these ozone generating air purifiers would have you believe, Ozone gas can be seriously hazardous to human health. I wouldn’t allow one of these ozone-emitting machines into my home and I suggest that you don’t either.
In my opinion, there is no point in using one of these air purifiers to alleviate the symptoms of asthma and allergies if you are simply going to replace these unwanted air particles with other Ozone gas particles that are even more harmful to your health than the ones that you are trying to remove!
The great news is that you don’t need to use an Ozone-emitting air purifier to get great results and, in fact, many of these ozone generators have been found to be pretty bad at purifying the air anyway.
The Germ Guardian AC 4825 and AC5000 air purifiers are both completely “Ozone-Safe”.
Germ Guardian AC4825 vs AC5000 – Differences
1. Room Coverage & CADR Rating
The main difference between the Germ Guardian AC4825 and the AC5000 is that they are designed to be used in different sized rooms.
The Germ Guardian AC4825 is suitable for use in small to medium sized rooms that measure up to 155 square feet, and it comes with a CADR rating of 100+.
The Germ Guardian AC5000 is suitable for use in medium to large sized rooms that measure up to 193 square feet, and it comes with a CADR rating of 125+.
2. Size of the Air Purifier
Due to the fact that these machines are designed to work in different sized rooms and, therefore, have different air circulation requirements, there is a difference in the size of the towers.
The Germ Guardian AC4825 air purifier is 22 inches tall, whereas the AC5000 is 28 inches tall.
3. Product Warranty
The AC4825 comes with a 3-year limited warranty, but the AC5000 comes with a longer 5-year limited warranty.

Germ Guardian AC4825 vs AC5000 – My Verdict
The Germ Guardian AC4825 and AC5000 air purifiers are 2 of the best cheap machines on the market.
They both come with high quality True-HEPA filters, an activated carbon filter, and a UV-C Light filter. Although they are not exactly ugly machines, you know that when you buy the AC4825 or the AC5000 you are not wasting money on expensive styling or complex programming functionality. Instead, they concentrate on doing the most important thing of all, which is removing airborne particles from your home.
They are both excellent options for anyone, but especially those who either cannot afford to spend more than $100-$150 on an air purifier and those who simply don’t want to spend more than that on an air purifier.
The only decision that you will have to make is which one of them is most suitable for the room that you wish to purify.
For rooms up to about 155, I recommend the Germ Guardian AC4825.
For rooms up to about 193 square feet, I recommend the Germ Guardian AC5000.
