The Germ Guardian AC4825 Air Purifier – Overview
Not everyone can afford to spend $500+ on a top of the range premium air purifier.
If you are looking for an air purifier for a small to medium sized room that comes with a True-HEPA filter and also does not emit any dangerous ozone gas into your home for under $100, then the Germ Guardian AC4825 fits the bill perfectly.
The Germ Guardian AC4825 air purifier is quite possibly the best cheap air purifier on the market today.
You might not be able to program the Germ Guardian AC4825 remotely using your iPhone whilst sipping cocktails 2,000 miles away on holiday, but if you actually just want a portable air purifier that will do a good job of removing unwanted air particles from your home without too much fuss, then this machine is well worth considering.
The Germ Guardian AC4825 Air Purifier – Main Features
The Germ Guardian AC4825 air purifier has a number of excellent features and the main ones are as follows.
1. True-HEPA Filter
The Germ Guardian AC4825 has a True-HEPA filter and a CADR rating of 100+.
A True-HEPA filter is one that has been shown to be capable of removing 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns.
This True-HEPA standard is good enough to deal with most dust, pet dander, pollen, and mold spores in your home.
Many of the cheap air purifiers on the market come without a True-HEPA filter and so the Germ Guardian AC4825 is top of its class so far as the quality of its filters is concerned.
Just like all air purifiers the HEPA filter will not last forever and will need to be replaced every 6-8 months or so. You will need to factor in the price of replacement filters when working out the full operating costs of one of these machines.
The filters aren’t ridiculously expensive when compared to other machines.
2. The Germ Guardian AC4825’s Other Filters
The Germ Guardian AC4825 air purifier does not just rely upon its True-HEPA filter.
It actually has 2 additional filter processes to ensure that the full range of air particles are targeted.
Whilst the True-HEPA filter takes care of the most common household allergens, the activated carbon filter is designed to remove common odors that can be caused by pets, smoking and cooking.
Finally, there is a UV-C Light Filter that works with Titanium Dioxide to kill airborne bacteria, viruses, germs and mold spores.
Although, the AC4825 uses 3 filtration processes you will only need to buy a single replacement filter unit when the time is right. Some more expensive air purifiers require you to replace multiple different filters and this can prove to be very expensive in the long term.
One really nice feature that has been added to the latest version of the Germ Guardian AC4825 is the filter replacement indicator light. Instead of you having to remember when it is time to replace the filter, the machine will actually tell you. It will also tell you when the UV-C filter light bulb needs to be replaced.
3. The Germ Guardian AC4825 is Ozone-Free
Many air purifiers use particle-removal processes that cause significant and potentially harmful amounts of ozone gas to be released into your home.
Ozone gas is hazardous to human health and I won’t recommend any air purifier on this website that produces harmful quantities of ozone gas. There is no point trying to alleviate the symptoms of asthma, allergies, or simply removing unpleasant odors from your home if you are going to replace those particles with something that is probably even more harmful.
The good news is that the Germ Guardian AC4825 air purifier is Ozone-Safe so you don’t need to worry about this issue at all.
4. The Germ Guardian AC4825’s Room Coverage
The Germ Guardian AC4825 measures 22 inches in height, looks quite sleek, and is suitable for use in rooms that are up to 155 square feet in size.
It will not, therefore, be suitable for large rooms, but is perfectly adequate for small to medium sized spaces.
If you need an air purifier to use in a larger room than 155 square feet, you should take a look at the Germ Guardian AC5000 instead.
5. How Noisy is the Germ Guardian AC4825 Air Purifier?
There is no such thing as a completely silent air purifier as they all need to draw large amounts of air through their filters and this inevitably leads to some noise emissions.
The Germ Guardian AC4825 has 3 speed options and each one emits a different amount of noise.
The lowest speed setting on the AC4825 is ultra-quiet and you ought to be able to sleep perfectly whilst using the machine in this mode.
The general consensus amongst those who have bought and reviewed this air purifier is that only the highest setting causes any significant amount of white noise.

Thanks for your great post. Question..We have had an Alpine air purifier for years. Not sure if you know about this unit, but it does put out ozone. I was under the impression that the ozone is responsible for the fresh oxygen rich air they put out. Your post seemed to imply that ozone gas is hazardous to human health. This is new to me, so thought I’d ask for feedback. thanks in advance.

Air Purifiers that use Ozone Generator technology are not recommended for a number of reasons. Firstly, even the manufacturers themselves usually advise that the Ozone Generator is only used when the home is unoccupied and not around those suffering from asthma or allergies. Secondly, there are other types of air filtration processes that do not produce Ozone Gas and which do a better job of cleaning the air. Some types of Ozone Generating Air Purifiers are now actually banned in States like California due to the dangers to human health.
